Henna Care Instructions

How you care for your henna after application will affect how dark the design will be and the length of time it will last. The location of the design will also affect how dark the stain will be. The hands and feet stain the darkest while areas like the head, face, neck, and back stain the lightest. Jagua will stain darker in these areas then henna.

Henna and Jagua after care instructions are different! Please see the correct section below for your design.

Henna Care

Before Application
  • Have clean, dry skin

    • Hair removal is not necessary

  • Avoid applying moisturizer before application

    • Moisturizer can create a barrier on the skin, preventing the henna from staining.

After Application
  • Once henna is applied, allow the henna to dry for 20-30 minutes.

  • Avoid excessive bending and smudging, even if the paste is dry.

  • After the henna has dried, gently apply a lemon juice/sugar mixture to the henna paste. Reapply as often as you'd like. Keeping the paste damp with this mixture will allow for a darker stain.

    • If you are visiting my booth at an event, feel free to come by my booth for one free lemon spray application.

  • Leave the henna paste on for a minimum of 4 hours for a good stain results. The longer you leave it on the better.

    • If you choose to leave the paste on overnight, please note that the henna can stain many materials including your sheets and flooring.

  • Remove the paste by peeling it with your hands. Do not use water! Apply a natural oil of your choice, such as coconut oil or avocado oil, to the area. Avoid getting the design wet for 8 hours for best stain results.

After Care
  •  Henna can last anywhere from 7-10 days for most. Fading happens for many reasons including your aftercare routine and even the placement on the body.

  • Use natural moisturizers

    • Keeping your skin moisturized will extend the life of your henna design.

  • Wash the area gently and pat dry

    • The more you wash and exfoliate your skin, the faster your design will fade. This tends to happen the most on the fingers and palms. Washing and drying gently will help prevent fading.

  • Avoid hand sanitizer and chlorine

    • Chlorine from the swimming pool or frequent use of hand sanitizer will make the design fade much faster. Avoid these to extend the life of your design.

Jagua Care

Before Application
  • Have clean, dry skin.

    • Hair removal is not necessary.

  • Avoid applying moisturizer before application.

    • Moisturizer can create a barrier on the skin, preventing the jagua from staining.

After Application
  • Allow it to dry for 2 hours once the jagua is applied.

    • Avoid smudging: jagua stains quickly, if the design is smudged while wet, it will leave a stain. It is not easy to fix a smudge once its done for jagua.

    • Avoid bending: When the gel dries, bending or brushing against it can cause it to peel off too soon. Some peeling is ok but we don't want large portions falling off too soon.

  • After 2 hours, wash thoroughly with soap and water (avoid hot water).

    • Use the palm of your hand to wash the jagua. Don't be afraid to press down. Don't use your nails or exfoliate.

    • Wash thoroughly. Wash with soap and rinse multiple times until there is no jagua left on the design area or your hands. **The gel can be translucent!! If there is any slimy texture, then it's not fully washed off. Wash again until there is no slimy texture and wash your hands to ensure no jagua is left.

    • Jagua can be translucent! If any gel transfers to other areas of your body or sticks on to another surface, it can stain. Be sure to keep your area clean and wash with soap and water.

  • After washing, avoid getting hot water on the design for the first 24 hours.

    • If you have sensitive skin, using hot water in the first 24 hours could cause irritation for some people.

  • The design will transfer in the first 24-48 hours. If you press the design against another part of your skin, the design can transfer and can't be immediately washed off. Be wary of sleeping with your hand against your face if you have a hand design!

    • I have not experienced the design transferring to sheets, clothes, or other materials.

After Care
  • Jagua can last anywhere from 7-10 days for most while some can last 3-4 weeks.
